I Got Stripper Moves from the S Factor!

Facebook is a wonderful tool! My Facebook page is often a place for my ramblings and random thoughts, and I rarely believe that anyone is paying any attention to me. However, sometimes to my surprise and chagrin, a few of my friends will comment often to let me know that I am indeed insane!

A few days ago, I was thinking out loud and posted that I was looking for a great place to celebrate The She Spot with a big-ass-girl’s-night-out party. My friend Marcus promptly replied that I should check out the S Factor where his wife, Veronica, is a manager. He had suggested this to me before, but being the procrastinator that I am, it wasn’t until this time that I decided to give her a call.

While talking to Veronica and getting some great suggestions on throwing a great girl’s night out bash, she invited me to come check the place out and try a class to see what the S Factor is all about. Now having been to other pole dancing classes, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the S Factor studio located at 1400 W. Hubbard Street in Chicago. I immediately noticed that this place was void of all of the cute girly decor that I had experienced before and instead was filled with the aromatic smells of essential oils and benches with comfy cushions. It felt more like a spa than a dance studio.

As I was offered my choice of fruit flavored waters and teas, I noticed the shelves full of sky high, clear bottomed stiletto shoes and boots for sale and I realized, “OK, we are going to have some fun!” At that moment a cute as pie tiny instructor named Carla appeared and invited me and a few other newbies into the studio to begin the S Factor Intro class. We were ushered into a studio filled with more cushy pillow filled benches and poles. After introducing ourselves and discussing why we decided to take this class, Carla gave us a history on how S FActor came to be. Created as “a feminine fitness alternative to Yoga, Pilates and Cross-Fitness by actress, filmmaker and dancer Sheila Kelly, the S Factor experience is a fitness technique that teaches women the language of their bodies through fluid feminine movement. The ultimate revelation of S for any woman, is the awakening and cultivation of her own soulfully sexy Erotic Creature.”

As we began our warm up of sensual moves and stretches that encouraged us to become aware of our natural curves, body movements, and the beauty of our bodies, we were led into a few routines to sexy dance music that indeed really worked to make me feel ultra sexy! This class was no choreographed dance class, but instead individual expressions of our sexiness. But did we learn some pole dancing moves? Yes we did! By the end of our class, we left invigorated by a great cardio workout, sore from using all of our arm muscles and sexier than we did when we walked in. It was a good day!

Now I know that some people, particularly women, will be aghast at the thought of women using their bodies as a financial tool or for the objectification of men. I hear that, and I am open to the debate. However, I find something truly empowering about a women embracing her sensuality and sexual power that can render men powerless and have her feeling strong and beautiful at the same time.

Many thanks to Veronica and the rest of the staff at S Factor, who are welcoming The She Spot and our friends to celebrate the power of female-ness on September 14th!  For more information on the S Factor, visit their site at www.SFactor.com. Hope to see you soon! Until then, embrace your sexy!
