Where’s Your Spot?
Best Summer Travel Spots for Girlfriend Get-Aways
If you have read anything written by me, you know how much I love my girls. And there is nothing better than getting them together for a week or a long weekend of some sho nuff BFF bonding. The crazier life gets, the more we need to get away and enjoy some down time. It truly makes us better for everyone else that we need to take care of in our lives. As the phrase states that Wynonna Judd coined on Oprah: WE forget to put ourselves on the list. Well, stop it right now, and commit to making time for you and your favorite girls.
To make it easy for you, I’ve found 5 of the best get aways for Girlfriends, and here they are:
OK, so I’m cheating a little bit, but really, there IS NOT a better city to visit than the Chi! Shopping on the Mag Mile, concerts, the best food anywhere and on June 14th Jill Scott’s Block Party with Kem and Doug E Fresh will be rocking the streets at the Charter One Pavilion.
If you can’t make it in June, July is Taste of Chicago, August and September is the Jazz Festival and every day is filled with neighborhood festivals, activities and more events then you could ever fit into your schedule.
Hotel Sax with the Crimson Lounge is my all-time favorite hotel in Chicago and you can always find a special offer to make your stay even more attractive. With so many things to do here, I don’t know why I even have 4 other hot spots on this list – but I do! Read on…
No one could ever deny that Hawaii is definitely a slice of heaven right here in these United States of America! But a place in heaven created just for girlfriends? Well, that certainly got my vote and made the list!
The Modern Honolulu offers the Modern Girls Get Away Package complete with spa services, surfing lessons, cocktails and VIP access to ADDICTION Nightclub. Located in a private oasis, but a short trip away from all the action on Waikiki Beach, The Modern Honolulu is the perfect retreat to get away from all the stresses of daily life.
Surrounded by beautiful beaches, art museums and surfing shores, there’s so much to do here, or relax on the beaches and do nothing at all!
Las Vegas, Nevada
You want to have so much fun that your head will ache? Go to Vegas! Whether you are going to party, gamble, view shows or spa your weekend away, there is something for everyone in Sin City.
I like to get the party started in Vegas by choosing a fab hotel – it sets the stage for a kick ass visit. Now, being the hotel snob that I am, I must admit, its almost impossible to pick a bad hotel (although my mother had a knack for picking digs that made me feel like I was running from the law), but I am totally partial to the Aria Hotel at City Center. The Aria is located in the middle of the strip and the accommodations are lavish! From the moment the curtains open and the lights come on simply from you opening the door, you will be in total love with this hotel.
Let me take a deep breath before I cry from all the missed shopping opportunities. The shopping in Vegas is ridiculous! The Forum Shops at Ceasers, the Shoppes at Palazzo, Crystals at City Center, The Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian and the Fashion Show Mall; with so many places to unload your hard earned loot it is difficult to choose where to begin.
The nightlife, the restaurants, the spas, the pools, the Bloody Mary’s – that was supposed to stay in Vegas – but you get the point! There’s way too much for me to talk about so just check out what turns you on at http://www.visitlasvegas.com/.
A common theme in this article for girlfriend travel seems to be shopping. Now maybe that’s just me and my girls, but if it’s your sweet spot too, NYC is definitely a winning choice. First stop – Century 21. Three words and two initials – TJ Maxx on Steroids. With two buildings and three floors of shopping madness, I can’t event describe the euphoria that comes with entering this store. This store literally has its own YouTube Channel and there are YouTube videos with tips on shopping there! There are so many things to love about this store: it opens at 7:45 am; high-end fashion at a fraction of the cost; NO SALES TAX (for purchases under $110)! What how may other reason do you need?
You could actually start and stop your shopping experience right here, but hey, you’re in New York so why would you? Canal Street, SoHo, 5th Avenue, and a shoe store named ShoeGasm, Lawd help you!
Eating in New York is as diverse as its residents. You can find an Italian, Sushi, Thai, Brazilian and a food truck all in the same block. The choice is yours and you can never go wrong. After dinner check out Jay Z’s 40/40 Club, The Darby for celebrity sightings or Ph-D, Dream Downtown’s rooftop club to knock back a few before turning in and starting the whole thing again!
Hotels in NYC are not cheap and the rooms are often smaller than you might be accustomed to, but do you really go to New York to stay in your room? I think not! Check into my favorite, the New York Marriot Marquis in Times Square, The James New York in SoHo or Dream New York in Midtown and get ready to have the time of your life!
San Juan, Puerto Rico
If you want to experience the cultural pride of Puerto Rican heritage, you will not be disappointed in San Juan. Stroll along the streets of the Old City while admiring centuries old buildings, lay out on the beautiful beaches, or check out the nightlife that never sleeps! According to EnjoyPuertoRico.com, this island has more “upscale restaurants featuring a greater variety of international cuisines than any other island, and its nightlife, from casinos to salsa clubs, is unsurpassed.” With Rum being the national drink of Puerto Rico with the Bacardi Rum plant being located there, the popularity of Puerto Rico’s bars is off the chain!
Making a decision as to where to stay in Puerto Rico might prove difficult due to the uniquely different areas of the small island. The major beachfront hotel districts, Condado and Isla Verde are perfect for sun worshippers or water sports enthusiasts who want to spend their days on the beach. Want to soak up the rich history that Puerto Rico has to offer? Try Santurch. Here you will find throngs of museums, art galleries, opera, ballet and musical concerts as well as local merchants selling fresh fruits, vegetables and artifacts.
If you want hip and cool, retro and chic, stylish and sophisticated, try staying at the La Concha Resort. Rated as one of the Top 21 Hottest Caribbean Escapes by the Travel Channel, you won’t be disappointed with your stay. This beachfront property is situated in the heart of the happenings: less than 15 minutes from Old San Juan and in the heart of all the tourist destinations. You will be minutes from mayhem or steps from tranquility.
When you decide that you have had enough of life’s craziness, grab your BFFs and escape to on e of these fabulous get away! Be sure to send us back some pics!
