This Valentine’s Day, Love The One You’re With
This year, I’m creating my own Valentine’s Day celebration.
I’ve been married for 14 years – 15 in July. I have a great husband, but I’ll tell you, marriage is difficult and sometimes it even sucks. At my age, I don’t know have many friends who aren’t married or haven’t been married before. For those of my friends who are, we often talk about how our spouses drive us up a wall. For those of my friends who are not, much of what we discuss is how they wish they could find someone to love.
Now, I wouldn’t change my life for the world – the good or the bad – but this Valentine’s Day, I am going to love the one I am ALWAYS with – MYSELF – and I am encouraging all of the ladies reading this to do the same. Now I know how nice it is to have someone to show you they love you on this special day, but I also think it is important to show yourself some love too. Whether you are in a committed relationship, just kickin it with someone, or going through a dry spell, Valentine’s Day can and should still be special. Let the one who loves you most show you how special you are. Who is that someone? YOU!
Here are a few ideas that I think you will appreciate!
Schedule a spa day with yourself! Get a massage, a facial and a mani/pedi. Take a book or your favorite magazine to the spa and spend the whole day there. It’s guaranteed to help you relax and de-stress.
Cook Yourself a Great Dinner
I don’t know about you, but I love cooking. I love to cook for my hubby, but when he is out of town or hanging with the guys, I often take the evening to treat myself to my favorite dinner; and I don’t have to share! This V Day, cook your favorite meal – I mean the works; dessert and all – get your favorite movie or watch Scandal, turn the ringer off your phone and put your cell on mute and have a great time with yourself!
I mean GO shopping. Go to the mall or to your favorite boutique and treat yourself like the queen that you are! Buy a dress that fits you perfectly or spend too much on a pair of shoes. Buy yourself some fresh cut flowers – they will make you and your home feel great. Or how about some cologne that makes you smell good. If its jewelry you want, buy it! And I ain’t shame to suggest: get you some toys! You know what I’m talking about! If you don’t here’s a hint: Its not necessary to wait for someone else to get you the things you want – get them for yourself!
Take Care of Your Health
February is Heart Health Month, do something good for your heart. Commit to eating a healthy diet, start an exercise routine, schedule a Dr’s visit for a check-up. Drink more water and get rid of as much stress as you can. Your heart works hard for you, be good to it too!
And above all remember – no one can you love you as much you should love yourself. Have a great Valentine’s Day!
