Always needing a break from real life, me and the hubby decided to go to our other favorite city for the weekend – New York. You can’t get rest or relaxation here, but you can get some hella fashions, food and fun. With so much to do and see in the Naked City, I thought I’d give you a run down of what I thought a few of the Hot Spots were. So, here we go:
Touched down in NYC at 8:30 am, grabbed our bags and a cab and made our way to the Crowne Plaza Times Square. Since check-in was not until 3:00 pm, we left our bags with the bellman and grabbed a bite to eat at Juniors Cheesecake on 45th Street. Nothing fancy to report, so let’s move on.
Although I’m not one for doing the tourist thing, I thought that it might be cool to go and see the Statue of Liberty since I come to NYC almost annually and have NEVER SEEN IT. Just as I thought, however, it was not that exciting. You get a much better idea of what it looks like from pictures on the internet and I was not interested in paying $40 for a boat ride over, especially since MY ancestors didn’t take the Ellis Island route here.
By the time we chilled with Lady Liberty for a while, we got a call saying our room was ready, and we headed back to Times Square. Sitting directly in the middle of all the action, the Crowne Plaza is a great location. The rooms have been remodeled and are quite nice. Plenty of space, modern furniture and (the MOST important feature for me) a great bathroom! Although there is a charge for internet access (I find this insane in 2012), I really couldn’t ask for more. And since I had been traveling since 4:00 am, I decided to see how comfortable the bed was. Three hours later, I decided it was pretty comfy.
By 8:00 pm, we’re famished and decide to grab dinner. Right out of the back door of the Crowne Plaza is a little restaurant that you’ll miss if you blink except for the great promoter standing outside who won’t allow you to. I wasn’t even in the mood for Italian food, but the promoter told me that their women’s bathroom is the best in New York and rated on of the top ten in the country. For that reason alone, I decided that this was certainly a place that I needed to explore.
Da Marino Ristorante Italiano is in a quaint basement space with a live band, a Mariachi band, albeit, but a band nonetheless. A complimentary glass of Prosecco, some curaches to participate with the band and some great chicken parmigiana later, and I was in a great place. And to top it off, I got to check out the best bathroom in New York. Here are some pictures – you be the judge. I personally don’t need a waterfall next to my toilet to have a good bathroom experience, but that’s just me.
Back to the hotel and the hotel bar Broadway 49 Bar and Lounge, which overlooks Broadway, for a glass of wine and some good old people watching. Back to the room and to our surprise, a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers and fruit had been delivered thanks to Vicki at the front desk (who checked us in) heard that our trip was for hubby’s birthday.
